One of the nicest aspects of designing and realizing a private cinema is, as far as we are concerned, the process. Before the lucky owner can be teleported from the couch to Starship Enterprise and beyond at the touch of a button, a whole process must be completed. From wish to end product does not always happen at warp speed. Simply because designing and realizing a non-existent space takes time, but sometimes also because the conversation starts long before the space is even ready to start construction. There was more than 1.5 years between the first discussions and the final delivery of this beautiful Cinema. A period in which the customer fulfilled at least two dreams together with the complete renovation of a beautiful farmhouse in the Gelderse back corner.
a beautiful part of the rest of the house
The desire to give the space a central place in the house that was directly connected to the kitchen-diner through a semi-open side wall, in combination with the rustic character of the beam construction, formed the starting point of our design. It is going a bit too far to say that the farmhouse has been completely renovated around the Cinema, but from the first conversations it was immediately clear that this home cinema would occupy a very prominent place in the home. Great of course! In our design we therefore took into account suitable wood accents, we integrated a niche with LED lighting for a drink and we worked with indirect lighting to give the space peace and depth. This makes it a beautiful part of the rest of the home, even when a film or series is not being enjoyed.

Around the seating position, we ensure the right balance between absorption and reflection using sturdy wood elements with robust vertical slats while accentuating the character of the farmhouse.
All speakers are concealed invisibly in the interior
Dark, upholstered walls contribute to that feeling of being drawn into the image. In combination with the 77” LG OLED screen, this provides phenomenal contrast. Subtle vertical wood accents provide a clean line and beautiful depth effect. Especially when we illuminate the outer wall surfaces, which are slightly recessed, with indirect LED lighting.
Because we want to enchant with sound and not with technology, we conceal all speakers invisibly in the interior. 13 pieces in this case. The 7.2.4 configuration with JBL Synthesis speakers consists of three SCL-6 in the baffle wall – the wall around the television. Side Surround and Rear Surround are based on the JBL Synthesis SCL-7, which focus perfectly on the seat thanks to the special 15 degree offset.
4 precisely placed ceiling speakers
Already in the first conversations it became clear that the customer’s smile is directly connected to the subtle massage of the lower abdomen. So powerful bass reproduction was an absolute must. No exaggerated drone, but tight, defined and wonderfully deep – even when the volume is set to a slightly lower level. With two pieces of JBL Synthesis SSW-2 we get an elephant with a toothache still smiling, so that wish has also been amply fulfilled. Our Dirac Live adjustment of the JBL Synthesis SDR-38 ensures the seamless integration of subs with fronts so that you can hear the shoe size of the T-Rex footstep.
The feeling of being immersed in a bath of warm, crystal-clear sounds is one of our important design criteria. We are therefore big fans of height channels. We therefore gratefully use 4 precisely placed ceiling speakers in this compact space of approximately 330cm wide and 390cm long. Dolby Atmos content is given the interpretation it deserves, but standard surround sound is also beautifully colored in three dimensions with a huge I’m in the middle effect.
To keep the beamed ceiling construction visible, we work with two separate clouds equipped with spotlights and the necessary absorption. The wooden frame finish completes the visual interplay of lines into an incredibly beautiful whole.
Beautiful oak top
The equipment is given a place in the room. The continuous element under the television has an upholstered folding front in the middle with the necessary muscles behind it to provide sound tracks from Netflix, Apple TV and similar. To the left and right of it we place the SSW-2 subwoofers, which make grateful use of the depth gained under the beautiful oak top.
beautiful home Cinema
Situated between the massive oak beams, a space was created that is beautifully balanced with the rest of the house. A Cinema that feels nice and soothing, even when the TV is off, but can overwhelm with a mighty three-dimensional sound spectacle when you ask for it. A detached farmhouse far from the hustle and bustle has a huge advantage, although with such a beautiful home cinema we would actually feel at home on any planet.
