Matrix Audio – history

Matrix Audio originated from the friendship of 3 classmates in Xi’an, China with a shared passion for high-end audio. After several hobby projects during their studies, they decided to turn their dream into reality after graduating in 2006. With the combined knowledge in the field of digital signal processing and extreme enthusiasm, the start of Matrix Audio and the introduction of their first DAC is a fact. Now, 18 years later, Matrix Audio is a mature brand with a huge focus on Streaming Audio and top-class Digital to Analog conversion with an almost holistic approach. Everything has to be right, from sound to user interface. That balance is Matrix Audio’s biggest goal, and we can tell you – they use it to make really cool products!

MATRIX AUDIO MINI-I 4 AND MINI-I PRO 4

The mini-i 4 and mini-i Pro 4 are super compact music streamers with a width of approximately 22cm that, thanks to the ESS Saber ES9039Q2M, rule over the ones and zeros over more than have serious sound qualities. The models tick off just about every conceivable streaming function you could wish for!

Matrix Audio’s X-SABER 3

Matrix Audio’s X-SABER 3 has been a focal point in the line up for years. Originally started as a DAC, this generation of the X-SABER has been technically perfected over the years and is still a favorite of the designers. In addition to pure DAC, the X-SABER 3 is an amazing streamer with stunning sound quality and available in silver or black.

Matrix Audio’s Element Series

The Element Series with 6 family members ranging from the Element S streamer/USB interface with purely digital outputs and Element i2 streamer with DAC to the top-class Element X2 Pure streamer with DAC with two ESS Saber ES9039PRO DAC chips in Dual Mono Mode. This is truly a top-class High End DAC by all standards and also a fantastic preamplifier including digital and analogue hybrid volume control. In addition to the Element S and i2, there is also an Element M2 and an X2.

The selection of Element Series streamers is completed with a super sleek power amplifier in the form of the Element P2 Power Amp. With 230 Watts @ 4 Ohms, we can confirm that this subtly lined power amplifier has serious drive and flexibility. Just a little bit more? This can be done by simply switching the P2 into Bridge Mono Mode for an output power of 850 Watts @ 4 Ohms and adding a second unit.

Matrix Audio’s M-Series

Although Matrix Audio has attracted attention in international reviews and in our country mainly with its fantastic Streaming Audio products, there is also a deep expertise in analogue signal processing. Of course, almost all models have a DAC, but it is mainly the sophisticated linear power supply, shielding from interference and analogue output stage that makes a Matrix Audio such an exceptionally fine sounding product. Certainly in relation to the price range! With that expertise and the desire to control the music signal from digital stream to speaker terminal, the engineers at Matrix Audio have brought together all their knowledge in a completely new, all-out M-Series.

The M-series represents the very best of Matrix Audio in four models: a dedicated MS-1 Audio Streamer/DAC with analogue Line Level output, the MSP-1 that adds an analogue volume control to the MS-1, the MP-1 Pure Class A preamplifier and the massive MA-1 stereo power amplifier. That Matrix Audio takes its designs seriously is clear from the first glance. The solid top plate is symbolic of the build quality and pride with which Matrix Audio develops its products. A beautiful perforation pattern for the necessary cooling, interrupted by Matrix Audio’s milled initials. Daring but stylishly executed, just like every line of this stylistic High End series that shows that Matrix Audio thinks about everything.

Matrix Audio MA Player App

Ease of use and simplicity are central to each model. Intuitive operation via clear touchscreen color displays on the front, easy-to-navigate menus and simple network setup ensure that you can quickly enjoy music. In addition, you have access to pretty much all the streaming functions you could wish for. ROON Endpoint, Tidal Connect, Spotify Connect, Qobuz, High Res Audio, Airplay, MQA and audio from the TV via HDMI eArc – Matrix Audio does it all. In addition, all models can be operated fantastically via the MA Player Remote App – Matrix’s own App for streaming audio with a beautiful interface and control of the main functions of your device. What the 3 wise men from Xi’an have managed to create is simply super complete and it sounds great too.
